ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES in a KIT
This Kit Contains: 20lires Gel Powder, 8 litres of Fixative Powder, 10 Pipettes, Drawing Sticks, Sponge, 5ml Spoons, Afro Rake, DIY Instructions
Additional.....You will need a plastic tray of at least 3cm deep & acrylic paints for this process. Winston & Newton Galleria, Zelcryl, Mont Marte for papers and fabrics. DALA Craft for wood, hydro stone, leather, clay etc.
MARBLING GEL POWDERS
The powder is used to thicken the water, to a crystal clear gel which becomes the Printing Surface or “Canvas” that you will be dripping your paints onto. Each application of colour yields only one sheet of paper, so the result is defined as a kind of aqueous monoprint.Simply mix 5ml powder to 1litre of hot water and whisk to prevent lumping. Let cool and off you go. Please note that the quantities are in millilitre and not in gram.
100ml (20litres), 250ml (50litres),500ml (100litres), 1000ml (200litres)
FIXATIVE CRYSTALS/ POWDER
The crystals/powder are dissolved in water and this acts as a fixative. You have to treat you papers/ fabrics etc this solution or your beautiful marbling prints will simply wash off or appear dull.
250ml (makes 8litres), 500ml, 1000ml
We supply a 1ml plastic pipette, which is ideal for the Marbling process. You simply suck the paint into the pipette and then drip or flick your paints onto the gel with it. Only a drop at a time is released onto the gel. 1ml of paint can go a long way. Your acrylic paint should be diluted with water to a drip viscosity.
Pack of 20, Pack of 50 & 100 available
Transparent Trays are available on request. Simply make sure that the tray is at least 4cm deep and a few centimetres bigger than the paper you are planning to marble onto.
I personally prefer Winston & Newton Galleria Acrylics for marbling onto paper and fabric. Ratio of 1:5 diluted with water.
For any crafty related materials like hydro stone, clay, leather, cement, wood, vinyl etc. I use DALA Craft Acrylics.
Others you might find in your local craft shop.. Zelcryl, Chromacryl, Mont Marte.
Other paints and acrylic inks can be used .. it will come as you familiarize yourself with the art of marbling. It is one big science experiment. With many variables, there is never a dull moment.
RAKES & COMBS
You can quite easily make your own rakes. The easiest way is to stick pins through a straw or hair curler pins through correx board strips. Feel free to contact me if you are wanting custom combs and rakes made.
